Changing the climate of knowledge in Khatlon

A series of climate change related activities were held in Khatlon by the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan in the first half of October.

More than 200 schoolchildren dared to win the prizes at the competitions for best drawing conducted in four different schools in Kulob and Qurghonteppa cities. Umed Aminov, RCST Climate Change Coordinator, said, before to whistle for the start of the competition, schoolchildren were informed about the climate change challenges and how the simple children can deal with them in their own houses, flats and schools. Best pictures were awarded with valuable gifts. He says, “The children from most vulnerable families were informed on climate change consequences, learnt behaviors on rational recourse management and over 20 of them were awarded by valuable gifts”.

Also, two round-tables were conducted in both biggest cities of Khatlon covering in total 30 representatives from the governmental agencies. During round tables participants were informed on climate change activities of RCST in the viloyat and throughout the country. Round table participants requested to print more informational materials and share them with educational departments of regions in order to distribute among the schools of the region. They suggested linking some materials with specified diseases in order to use them in governmental health departments’ activities and events. In their turn, RCST representatives said that they would be very happy to have more specialists (like agronomist, doctors, engineers and others) to be involved into the implementation of some specific climate change activities.

Water Efficiency and Climate Change Workshop for Ghonchi district schoolchildren

On the eve of Nawruz holiday RCST with the support of Federation Country Representation has conducted the first integrated Watsan and Climate Change workshop for schoolchildren and community members in Ghonchi districts of Sughd oblast, dedicated to World Water Day, which in turn devoted to the theme of Urban Water Supply.

The workshop took place in school # 18 of Yangiobod village, where water supply system has been constructed by RCST in 2009. Some 30 schoolchildren of the 6-7 forms), 5 representatives of water users’ committee and 20 community members directly participated in the event.

The workshop aimed to improve population knowledge and skills (particularly among schoolchildren) on climate change related issues, energy savings and water and sanitation, as well as strengthening of RCST capacity on climate change, through close integration of climate change activities into other regular programmes and activities. Moreover, to improve environment issues within targeted community, as well as future nutrition status of the schoolchildren, fruit tree planting activities have been included into the workshop, as a practical exercise.

The two-day workshop consisted of two parts; one was theory and the other practical exercises. During the first part of the workshop participants have been introduced with climate change consequences and energy efficiency and the second day some 30 schoolchildren and five members of water users committees from among of participants have been directly engaged into tree planting activities. For these purposes around 150 tree plants have been procured and delivered by RCST/IFRC and some 200 information brochures were distributed.

As a result of the tree planting activities, schoolchildren improved their knowledge on environmental protection/ gardening and became a owners of the planted big fruit garden at the school’s territory.

The event was telecasted by Sughd region and republican TV stations as well, where some 150-200 thousand country population get access to this reel and improved their knowledge on RCST/IFRC activities in the country.

Таъсири тағйири иқлимро ба мактаббачаҳои Варзоб шарҳ додем

Чӣ будани тағйири иқлим ва таъсири он ба ҳаёти башарият мавзӯъи аслии давраҳои омӯзишии Ҷамъияти Ҳилоли АҳмариТоҷикистон барои хонандаҳои мактабҳои миёнаи ноҳияи Варзоб буд.

Давраҳои омӯзишии мазкур рӯзҳои 16-ум ва 17-уми декабр дар деҳаҳои Пурзобод ва Чанори ноҳияи Варзоб баргузор шуда, дар он хонандагони синфҳои 6-8 ва омӯзгорон аз таъсири тағйири иқлим ба ҳаёти инсонҳо ва ҳамчунин роҳҳои сарфаҷӯӣ аз нерӯи энержӣ маълумот гирифтанд.

Давраҳои омӯзишии мазкур дар доираи барномаи “Тағйири иқлим”-и Ҷамъияти Ҳилоли Аҳмари Тоҷикистон доир шуда, дарсҳоро менеҷери ин барнома Умед Аминов гузаронид.

Дар соли 2010 дар доираи барномаи мазкур ҳамчунин чорабиниҳои дигар, ба мисли мизи мудаввар бо иштироки созмонҳои маҳалливу байнулмилалии марбута, давраҳои омӯзишӣ барои омӯзгорони мактабҳои миёнаи Бадахшон ва ғайра гузаронида шудаанд.
